Sad News from the Library
The Library Trustees Board and the Select Board were saddened to learn of the recent death of our town Library Director, Martha Noblick. Martha had served for nearly a decade since 2013 as our librarian; before that she was at Deerfield Memorial Library. Our condolences and sympathies go to Martha’s family and friends. We will miss her very much.
The Library Trustees Board and Select Board are working together to develop next steps and to work with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Interim coverage to keep the library open will be provided while a search takes place for a new Library Director. At the Library Trustees Board meeting on 21 December 2022, Julie Cavacco was appointed as Acting Library Director of the Goshen Free Library and ratified as such by the Select Board. Julie Cavacco had been working closely with Martha this past year as part of our transition to CWMARS. She will cover the remaining December holiday hours and regular hours will resume in January.
We ask for your understanding during this transition.
The Goshen Free Public Library, located on the 2nd floor of the John James Memorial Town Hall, at 42 Main Street (Route 9), serves area residents by providing books, DVDs, audiobooks, music CDs, magazines, high-speed Internet and computers for public use, WiFi, Interlibrary Loan (ILL), and a printer/scanner/copier (nominal cost).
Curbside pickup is still available.
Masks are optional for fully vaccinated patrons & required for non-vaccinated patrons.
Social distancing guidelines should be observed in the library.
In addition, the Library provides summer reading programs for school-age children, and special programs, such as visits by your political representatives for information and discussion.
The Library is on the second floor. Please enter via the door facing the parking lot. Library hours are posted on those doors. For handicapped access, use the ramp leading to the side door toward the back of the town hall, go cross the stage, and use the elevator to go up one floor (press "L" for Library). Turn right off the elevator. The library is the first door on your left.
To return library books, DVDs, etc., at any time, there is a weatherproof box on the porch of the Town Offices building, 40 Main Street, which is also wheelchair-accessible. There is one slot for books and another slot for fragile materials (i.e., DVDs).
The Board of Trustees meets every other month. The meetings are open to the public and follow Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. To find out the date, time and location of the next meeting of the Board of Trustees, please call the library.
